She wakes up from the bed and yells “didi….” and her sister responds “coming, just wait a second”. She slowly opens her eyes to look at her sister, smiles and gets on with her day.
She has waited for long sometimes and also cries sometimes when she can’t “wake up” on time, but the ritual still continues. She is not sure what she will do when her sister gets married and goes off to live in a different home. She says she will move in with her no matter what. They exchange smiles and bury the question, obviously aware of how hard it will be when that happens.
Her sister is the anchor of her life; Everyone loves her but she loves her most. At moments when she is in a fit of anger and throws stuff all over the house, she does not seem to remember that she would need her sister the very next morning. The sister knows though and calms her down, absorbing the overflowing energy, feeling tired but not losing her patience.
I am happy that I could not interrupt this beautiful routine. I admit that I shamelessly tried.
